You can now get the contraceptive pill from some pharmacies without needing a prescription. After a private consultation, a pharmacist can provide the combined pill or progestogen-only pill. Contraception Options Available
Sefton Sexual Health Service offers many ways to help you prevent unplanned pregnancies and manage your reproductive health. They also provide Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC), which is over 99% effective and easy to use once fitted.
Here are the contraception options you can choose from:
- Implant: A small rod under the skin that releases hormones.
- IUD (Copper Coil): A T-shaped device that prevents fertilization.
- IUS (Hormonal Coil): Similar to the IUD but releases hormones.
- Injection: Hormones that prevent ovulation, given by injection.
- Pill: Daily tablets (combined or progestogen-only).
- Patch: A skin patch that releases hormones.
- Vaginal Ring: A flexible ring that releases hormones.
- Condoms (Male & Female): Barrier methods to prevent pregnancy.
- Caps/Diaphragms: Barrier methods placed inside the vagina.
- Fertility Awareness: Tracking your cycle to avoid fertile days.
- Sterilisation: A permanent option to prevent pregnancy.
